Our Rare Plant Collection is where we keep the unusual, the hard-to-find, and the varieties that make plant lovers stop in their tracks. This is especially true for our Alocasia selection, which has become one of the cornerstones of what we do.

Alocasias are bold, architectural plants with a presence that feels almost prehistoric, from velvety dark leaves to sharp silver veins and dramatic upright forms. They’re not just houseplants, they’re statement pieces for people who love the strange and beautiful side of nature.

Semi-Hydro Grown Rare Plants

Some of our rare plants, especially Alocasias, may be grown in a semi-hydro setup.

Semi-hydro is a method of growing plants in an airy, soil-free medium rather than traditional potting mix. Instead of dense soil, plants are grown in substrates like:

LECA (lightweight expanded clay balls)
PON (a mineral blend of pumice, lava rock, and zeolite)

These media hold moisture while still allowing excellent airflow around the roots, which many Alocasias love. Semi-hydro can help reduce overwatering issues and encourages strong, healthy root systems.

If a plant is grown in semi-hydro, we recommend continuing that method rather than immediately repotting into soil, since the root system is adapted to that environment.
